Imitation

Life imitates art imitates life imitates us,

waltzing to the rhythms of the moon, waltzing to the cadence of the stars.

We smile until our cheeks sting, me and you and us, drinking down the sky and making a home out of each other’s minds.

We hold each other until it hurts, our bodies enfolding on each other, our bodies enveloping the air dense with our laughter.

You swell with snippets of yesterday,

inking stories onto my skin in hopes

of them living forever.

Leaves crackle with life below our spines, spewing snapshots of soft sanity to dreamers like us,

undulating to the tune of the sun tacitly arising.

We beg today to slow down until the stars paint heaven on our cheeks

and it is me and you and us

sucking peaches dry, cocooning ourselves in the warmth of soft grasses.

The sky seeps honey on our skin

and we throw our heads back in sweet adoration:

how lucky we are to live and to die and to do it all over again, tomorrow.

Life imitates art imitates life imitates us.
